99.85, 100 in Specialist Maths
A masterclass in Specialist Mathematics is a journey into wrestling with the mysteries at the core of all science and learning. It is said mathematics is the music of the spheres, and I, Felix Pountney, will be your conductor for this silent symphony.
Maths is my core learning touchstone, which allowed me to achieve 100 in Specialist Mathematics in the 2020 ATAR and 99.85 overall. Beyond my, ATAR is a sea of peers and younger students who have loved joining me in the exploration of pure maths. Regardless of where you are starting from, we will move together to cover the syllabus and all its surprising nuances.
Our masterclass will allow me to show you the keys, shortcuts and simple ways to break down what the QCAA will throw at you. Much of the challenge of Specialist Mathematics is getting a foot in the door of a problem and doing this fast. Time is the one thing most students need more of in the ATAR exams, and I can show you how to steal some of it. Can’t wait to start sharing our online mathematical odyssey.
To ensure we all have the same foundation to build off, we will begin with a unit 1 and 2 crash course! It is important to understand what is ‘assumed knowledge’ going forward, including combinatorics, vectors, proofs, complex numbers, trigonometry, functions and matrices – this will make life easier in future!
It is important to be able to make connections between which formulas apply to different concepts – and it will help with our unit 1 and 2 review. Plus, it will give us an idea of what’s to come!
A quick topic test to consolidate what we’ve refreshed from last year’s content.
A recap of mathematical proof structure and types – building from simple examples to complex applications.
We will delve into the premise behind induction and realise its strength. This involves introducing summation notation.
Let’s put our new proof style into action, again building from simple to challenging applications.
