Hey! My name is Matina, and it will be my pleasure being your mentor. Having graduated from Year 12 in 2020, I am here to help you succeed in undoubtedly one of the most fundamental and valuable QCE subjects: Mathematical Methods.
Tackling the challenges of being the first Queensland ATAR cohort amidst a pandemic, I received an ATAR score of 99.95 – the highest possible rank – placing me in the top 30 high achieving students in the state, with Mathematical Methods as one of my best subjects. Along with many awards and opportunities, my hard work throughout the year also gained me a position in the provisional entry medical programme at Griffith University – a life-long dream. However, I would not have been able to get to where I am today without my strong passion and developed skills in mathematics which I am very excited to share with you!
Over the course of this 30-lecture series, I want to give you the confidence, skills, and power to master the QCE Maths Methods course. From simple familiar, complex familiar, to complex unfamiliar – you will learn the tips and tricks to acing questions with and without a calculator!

Lesson 1: Recap! A calculus crash course.
From the outset, all students will start with a common foundation as we cover the key concepts of Grade 11 that carries into your senior year.
We will cover the relevant derivatives needed for Grade 12 in depth, from different families such as polynomials, exponentials, trigonometric functions and logarithms, to the must-know chain, product and quotient rules.
As we start, and throughout the entire course, the formula sheet should be your constant companion in alleviating memorisation workload and reminding you of key concepts.
Lesson 2: Our next big step - integration
We begin with a holistic understanding of what integrals are, what they mean and how we can use them – important concepts often overlooked and always tested on your external exams!
Integrals, just like all math, do not exist in isolation! We explore how the differentiation concepts you have learned can assist you in producing integrals and anti-derivatives.
Integration, especially at its harder level, can be significantly less straight forward than the largely algorithmic approach to derivatives. With some of my handy tips, we can clear up any confusion.
